Elbow – The Seldom Seen Kid

Als op Lowlands één band mijn hart gestolen heeft is het Elbow wel De stem van zanger Guy Garvey vond ik live “quite impressive.” Elbow is meervoud, Brits en gaan “dieper” dan Kaiser Chiefs en Editors: Elbow is ingetogen weemoedig, maaar soms ook geweldig optimistisch goed! Live net zo goed (nog leuker) als op CD blijkt!

Elbow liet met het album “The Seldom Seen Kid” onlangs o.a. de albums van Estelle, Adele en Radiohead (!) achter zich:

The Nationwide Mercury Prize is an award for the best British or Irish album of the previous year, as judged by a panel of music industry executives and experts.

Elbow won deze Mercury Prize en is zo’n band waarvan je wilde dat je hem gezien had voordat de band écht doorbreekt in Nederland; met alleen nog maar dure optredens die in de Randstand te bewonderen zijn. Niks tegen het druk bewoonde midden van Nederland met zijn grote concertzalen, maar Elbow bestrijkt met optredens as we speak gelukkig nog tegen aanvaardbare prijzen héél Nederland… *Joy!*

Nog voor het eind van dit jaar is Elbow te zien in Noord- (nog enkele plaatsen beschikbaar), Midden- (logischerwijs bijna uitverkocht) en Zuid- (kaarten voor het oprapen) Nederland. “Get here if you can” zou Oleta Adams zingen.

“The Seldom Seen Kid” is naar mijn idee een tof album wat je gewoon móet hebben als Britpop je kan bekoren

En moet ik het nog zeggen?
