Aqua?
Jeweetwel: die Deense band die eind jaren ‘90/begin 2000 hits had met oa. Barbie Girl, Doctor Jones, maar ook met Turn Back Time (nog steeds een geweldig nummer imho).
Dié Aqua heeft zichzelf dus nieuw leven ingeblazen. Voor mij vreselijk jeugdsentiment, zitten we daar nog wel op te wachten anno 2009?
Jeugdsentiment ten top!
Hun eerste nieuwe single gaat “Back To The Eighties.” Back to the nineties was wat Aqua betreft logischer geweest qua jeugdsentiment, maar dit nummer over de jaren ‘80 doet het toch ook érg goed op dat gebied, dankzij o.a. het hoge “o jah!” gehalte van de lyrics.
Het nummer had niet misstaan afgelopen songfestival, maar Ajay is een sucker for songfestivals én jeugdsentiment. De nieuwe Aqua is weer zó fout, dat het geweldig is!!!
Foute clip, catchy deuntje; dat moet goed komen.
Wordt “Back To The 80’s” van Aqua een hit? Ik vind dus van wel

Enfin, een comeback van Aqua had ik niet aan zien komen, en dit nummer overtreft op het eerste gehoor mijn verwachtingen daarbij. Ik vind het deuntje best aardig en past eigenlijk wel in het rijtje van hun eerdere bubblegum pop singles.
De tekst bevat leuke vondsten (o.a. when Huey Lewis was the news en When M&M (Eminem) was just a snack and Michael Jackson’s skin was black).
Het meest slimme vind ik het onderwerp: Een oppervlakkige, doch nostalgische samenvatting van de jaren 80, waardoor het een bijna universele appeal heeft. Dit zou moeten helpen bij het verkrijgen van airplay, zodat het een hit kan worden. Wat mij betreft mag dat best.
Ik zag het ook absoluut niet aankomen, een dergelijke reünie. Als dit aanslaat, is het wachten nog op een revival van Toy-Box en groepjes als E-Rotic en aanverwanten.
Volgens mij mikt Aqua op mensen van rond de 30. Die kennen allemaal Aqua en zijn opgegroeid in de jaren ‘80
